Sheryll Murray MP congratulated pupils at Callington Primary School for their award for “Promoting Active Democracy Loudly” (PADL). The award was set up in 2002 by the Cornwall Youth Forum and involves a peer assessment of the school council by youngsters from other schools.
Sheryll met with the student council and she discussed many issues including who Sheryll had met in her role as their Member of Parliament. The youngsters were keen to learn about Sheryll’s role as an MP and more details about her job.
The school council is also playing an active role in improving the facilities at the school. They explained to Sheryll all about their newest project is to raise fund to provide a wooden reading shelter in the playground.
After the visit Sheryll said, “It was fantastic to meet so many talented and enthusiastic youngsters. They are a credit to their parents and their teachers. I am pleased that the school is promoting democratic involvement by the youngsters so that they can appreciate their role in our society. I would like to thank them for their invitation to the school and for their warm hospitality.”
