Sheryll Murray has welcomes the increased funding for seven schools across South East Cornwall to improve the school buildings including kitchen facilities, lighting and roof supports through the condition improvement fund.
The condition improvement fund was set up in October 2014 to ensure that all schools could bid for the funding they needed to improve the facilities and buildings. South East Cornwall successful bid schools include Saltash.net Community School, Sir Robert Geffery’s Church of England Primary School, Harrowbarrow School, Looe Community Academy, Looe Primary School, St Nicolas’ CofE VA School and Liskeard Hillfort Primary School.
Mrs Murray said, “Families and pupils in South East Cornwall deserve local schools with facilities that provide the best learning environment. It is great news that thanks to the difficult decisions this Government has taken to deal with our deficit, it has been possible to fund this boost for our local schools and address the needs of our children.
“As part of our long-term economic plan, we are delivering the best schools and skills for young people with a million more children in schools rated good or outstanding than in 2010. This announcement means that pupils in South East Cornwall will feel the direct benefit of our plan, and will get the investment in their education that they deserve.’
The funding allows work on the building and to the facilities to begin in these schools from January 2016.
